Female pelvis. The pelvis is formed by the hip bones, fused at the front at the pubis, and the sacrum. It is an immensely strong structure which links the lower body to the spine, protects the lower abdomen and forms the frame to support the legs and allow locomotion. The female pelvis is wider than the male, to allow for childbirth.
