Anterior lobe of pituitary gland, light micrograph. Most of the anterior lobe of the human hypophysis (pituitary gland) corresponds to the lateral wings, in which there is a clear predominance of acidophilic cells. These cells form very wide cell cords, separated by connective tissue spaces almost entirely occupied by wide capillaries. The capillaries are the sinusoids, belonging to the hypophyseal portal system, and are very visible in the image because they are very dilated and full of blood.
