Vasily Vasilyevich Golitsyn (1643-1714) was a leading boyar, a Russian statesmen, combining military duties with civilian pursuits, de facto head of the government during the regency of Sophia Alexeyevna (1682-1689) over her brother Ivan and half-brother Peter the Great who banished him and his family to Arkhangelsk Oblast.
