702235 The Conquest of Toledo in 1085 (ceramic) by Spanish School; Private Collection; (add.info.: Alfonso VI (before June, 1040 ??June 29/July 1, 1109), nicknamed the Brave (El Bravo) or the Valiant, was King of Le籀n from 1065, King of Castile and de facto King of Galicia from 1072. In May 1085, after skilfully managing to pit the several Muslim kings against each other and defeating a coalition of the taifas of Seville, Badajoz and Zaragoza, Alfonso VI was able to enter the city of Toledo; the latter\'s taifa was incorporated with Castile and the city was made the capital of Le籀n and Castile. The former taifa lands remained subject to a long struggle with its Muslim neighbours, at least until the battle of Las Navas de Tolosa (1212).); Index Fototeca; Spanish, out of copyright.
