Victorine Giriat, Henri Bassot and Charles Robardet were charged with the murder of Eugenie Fougere and her chambermaid, Lucie Maire, in September 1903. A fourth man, Cesar Ladermann, had shot himself before he could be arrested. Giriat and Bassot were found guilty of the crime and sentenced to 15 and 10 years hard labour respectively, with Robardet sentenced to three months in prison for being in possession of stolen jewellery belonging to the victim.
