Light micrograph showing one of the characteristics of senile involution of the pineal gland: a glial scar. They appear as clear regions of variable size and irregular contour, devoid of pinealocytes. They are formed by the second type of pineal parenchymal cells, the glial cells. Glia scars in the pineal gland have the characteristics of the glial scars formed by astrocytes in central nervous system lesions.
