In the years after World War One (1914-1918) it was clear that future warfare would involve a lesser role for cavalry. 1928 the 11th (Prince Albert?s Own) Hussars became the first cavalry regiment to mechanise, receiving Rolls-Royce and Lanchester armoured cars.
