Artist's Conception Of An Earth Satellite -- This is an artist's conception of a space station outlined by a University of Maryland physicist, Prof. S. F. Singer, now in Copenhagen, who called his idea the "mouse," meaning minimum orbital unmanned satellite of the earth. He calculated it would circle about 200 miles above the earth at a velocity of 17,280 miles an hour--about the soma statistics mentioned in today's White House announcement. July 29, 1955.
