A Very Rare Specimen -- "George", the squirrel, with keeper Graves at the London Zoo. It is very tame, is about 6in long, and has a cream coloured body and pinkish tail. A merchant seaman who thought his pet was just an ordinary squirrel presented it to the London Zoo - and was surprised to find that he was giving away a rare Oriental species known as a Finlayson's squirrel, a type which the Zoo has not seen for many years. The seaman, Mr. Terence Levy, of Wembley, captured the animal when he went as bore on a small island, Gos-ichang, in Siamese waters last year. February 07, 1947. (Photo by Fox).
