New B.B.C. Television Station -- This is the combined control desk for the sound and vision transmitters at Sutton Coldfield. In centre of desk (in aperture above engineer's right hand) is the waveform monitor, which can be switched to the output of each stage in the modulator and also to a pic up probe in the output circuit of the Modulated radio frequency amplifier. The opening of the Sutton Coldfield Television station on December 17 will bring about 6 million more viewers to Britain's T.V. audience. The station is on a 24 acre site 550 feet above sea level, ten miles north of Birmingham, Warwickshire, England. Programmes will be wirelessed from the London studios at Alexandra Place and, after amplification, redistributed by Sutton Coldfield. December 14, 1949. (Photo by Associated Press Photo).
