A Cardinal's Hat - This photo shows a Cardinal's five hats. The picture was made in view of the coming January 12 ceremony in Rome at which 24 prelates will be elevated by the pope to the sacred college of Cardinals. At top centre is the Galero, or "Red Hat," the particular symbol of the office of Cardinal. A Board-Brimmed, low-crowned hat of red felt it has two clusters of 15 tassels each suspended from the crown. The red hat was once worn, but today after delivery to the Cardinal it is set aside and does not again appear publicly until the Cardinal's death. March 26, 1953. (Photo by Associated Press Photo).
