This is Ern Florence, one of Australia's top bowlers, who knows a much about the guiding of torpedoes as he does at controlling his bowls to kitty. Florence has skipped rinks for NSW more than 50 times. He has won four State and three metropolitan titles. Ern and Frank Honeybone were runner-up in the national pairs title this year. Florence, however had a tedious job during the war. He and his colleagues had to disarm the Japanese subs that entered Sydney Harbor ad tried to sink the American ship, Chicago. May 09, 1955.
