Modern Science Explains Deaths Of The Famous. Henry VIII contracted syphilis as a boy and the difficulties of his six wives in producing children (for which two of the wives lost their lives) can be explained by his affliction. Though one of England's best-known divorcees, Henry VIII (1491-1547) divorced only two of his six wives. Two were executed, one died naturally, the sixth survived him. December 14, 1950.
