Career Woman (Seventh of Twelve) -- Congresswoman Clare Boothe Luce (left) holds a portrait of the child she adopted while on a tour of Italy in 1944, during a talk with newspaper women just after the opening of the 79th Congress. She was prostrated by her daughter's death and in the same year adopted a young Italian girl. She shows the child's portrait to Washington newswomen.
