After refitting in Kure Docks, Japanese oil tanker "Gyokuei Maru" leaves for Persia, to load oil. She will then proceed to the Antartic where she will act as supply ship to the Japanese whaling fleet. Crowds on the wharf wave flags and hold streamers as the ship begins to move. Prayers have been offered for her safe return loaded with the much needed whale oil and meat. December 8, 1949.
