Hypersplenism, light micrograph. Hypersplenism is a spleen disease that can be due to several causes, mostly chronic liver diseases and infections. Macroscopically, the spleen is enlarged (splenomegaly). Microscopically there is a reactive follicular hyperplasia of white pulp.
