Papulopustular rosacea affecting the face and eye of a Hispanic female. Rosacea is a reddening of the skin from an unknown cause. Papulopustular rosacea is a subtype where patients develop pustules (pus-containing blisters) resembling acne in the central portion of their face. In severe cases, this inflammation can lead to chronic facial oedema (facial swelling). One possible cause is overuse of corticosteroid creams. Treatment is with a long-term course of antibiotics, but the condition can recur for many years before disappearing completely.
