Researchers at NIH's National Institute for Dental and Craniofacial Research are studying fruit fly glands (like the one pictured here) and cell packets known as secretory granules (red) that store proteins for secretion . This work may help scientists better understand how secretion goes wrong, and how it might be treated, in conditions such as salivary gland disorders, which cause dry mouth.
