Conceptual illustration showing the Orion spacecraft during re-entry as it returns to Earth. Part of the Artemis I mission, an uncrewed test flight for NASA's Artemis program, the Orion spacecraft will spend around three weeks in space, orbiting both the Earth and Moon and travel beyond the Moon. The furthest distance the spacecraft will be is 450,000 kilometres from Earth. This is longer and further than any spacecraft designed to carry humans has flown before. Artemis I is scheduled for launch on the 29th of August 2022. The Artemis program aims to land the first woman and the next man on the Moon by 2024.
