LAMA GAMPOPA.
Tibet. About 18th c.

Silvery bronze with yellowish patina. The founder of the Kagy?school tradition in Tibet and the chief disciple of Milarepa. He is also known as the great physician of Dagpo and lived from 1079 to 1153. Here he is shown with a characteristic hat of a lama and in flowing robes. He sits in the attitude of Amitayus; refering to him as one of his forefathers. Baseplate renewed. Height 11cm. Condition A/B.Art trade; Van Ham.
