NETSUKE: SAMPLER FOR BAGS OF RICE IN THE SHAPE OF FUKUROKUJU.
Japan. 18th/19th c. Stag antler; carved and with old polished patina. The figure follows the form of the tip of a stag antler. The god is shown standing with a strongly elongated cranium. His face carved expressively. He is dressed in a Chinese garment; which is decorated with Chinese characters; and holds a leaf fan. His hair on the back of his head is covered with a typical cloth; from which long ribbons fall on his back. As himotoshi a hole is drilled in the back and the string is led through the natural opening of the horn. Length 19.8cm. Condition A/B.Art trade; Van Ham.
