sir Ernest Henry SHACKLETON (15 February 1874 - 5 January 1922) British polar explorer of Irish origin. In 1901 he participated in Robert Scott's Antarctic expedition; arriving at 82 ?17 'South latitude. On his return; in 1904; the Scottish Geography Society entrusted him with the functions of secretary.
