Flounce of Needle Lace with a Man and a Scepter Flanked by Crowns; Strip of natural colored needle lace: point de France. Symmetrical pattern relative to the width axis; on a hexagonal bar ground with picots. At the center is a man with a scepter under a canopy; possibly Louis XIV. A laurel wreath is held above his head by two puttis. He stands between two prominent royal crowns in the pattern; among which three men are depicted in theatrical pose. Caged owls can be seen above each crown between two portrait medallions; between which stars and a full moon. Above the central figure is a bird and a sun. Other motifs include obelisks and parts of weapons equipment. The scene is richly decorated with floral scrolls. Full work with cut-outs; sparing application of decorative stitches. Embossed contours with cordons. The top is trimmed with a woven edge. The shells on the underside consist largely of richly decorated c-volutes.
