Flounce with Suns and Flowers Strip of needle lace with spiral vines that comprise four rows of suns and various flowers; Strip of natural colored needle lace: punto in aria. The pattern consists of four rows of suns between various types of flowers and spirits (narrow ribbons made of festival stitches) that curl and form heart-shaped frames. Smaller flowers are arranged around the bottom row of suns; arranged in heart-shaped frames. Symmetrical compositions occur within the very varied range of motifs. The scallop edge is formed by closed tulips and open palm flowers that alternate. The motifs are made up of festival stitches and many decorative stitches and they are accentuated by relief contours that are decorated here and there with picots. The motifs are connected to each other by pictured braids.
