Italy; Tuscany; Camigliano (10 km off Lucca): marble statue of Hercules in a niche of the main facade of Baroque style Villa Torrigiani; built 1636 onwards. Villa Torrigiani was bought; in 1636 by the ambassador of the Republic of Lucca at Versailles in France; Marchese (Marquess) Nicolao Santini; from the rich Buonvisi family which had used it as as a summer residence.The villa was further extended and decorated in Baroque style. In 1816; the last Santini; Vittoria Santini; married Pietro Torrigiani. The garden originally was a French style garden from around 1650. In 19th century; it was changed into an Englsih garden with exotric trees from all over the world. Since 1967; villa and garden Torrigiani can be visited. The last members of the Torrigiani family are still living here.
