New British "Zebra" Illumination: Pedestrians crossing "Zebra" after it has been illuminated by Mr. Beaker's method. A new method illuminating at night Britain's "Zebra" pedestrians crossing was demonstrated this week by its deviser 49-year-old Charles Becker, an electrical engineer. Mr. Becker fixed a car headlamp, rim, glass and reflector on the side of the orange globe beside the zebra so that it cast a diffused light over the crossing. The globe on the opposite side of the crossing is similarly fitted. December 29, 1955.
