Tuscany; city of Prato; Cathedral Saint Stephen (Cattedrale di San Stefano): original seven reliefs of the external pulpit; realized 1428 - 1438 by Donatello; in the Cathedral Museum (Museo dell`Opera del Duomo); The pulpit is of marble; bronze and mosaic pieces and placed on the south-east flank of the Cathedral of Prato. The pulpit is exclusively used to show the "Sacra Cintola" (English: Girdle of Thomas; Virgin`s Girdle; Holy Belt; German: Heiliger G黵tel); five times a year. In 1385; it was decided to construct a new facade for the cathedral which made it necessary to replace the old outside pulpit with a new one. in 1428; Donatello and Michelozzo presented a model. In 1433; work started. The architecture was mainly by Michelozzo; the decoration; reliefs and ornaments; mainly by Donatello. The bronze capital was designed by Donatello and realized by Michelozzo and help of Maso di Bartolomeo. In 1967; the original external pulpit was replaced by today`s copy. In 1972; the original seven reliefs of Donatello were moved into the Cathedral Museum (Museo dell`Opera del Duomo) and until 1999 restored.
