Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the front line of regenerating human junctional epithelium. This illustrates adherent cells at the front of the newly forming junctional epithelium. The latter is de novo formed on a titanium abutment surface. During the installation of a dental implant, the natural junctional epithelium around a tooth will be destroyed and must be regenerated. This is established by cells that migrate from the oral epithelium to the abutment surface and proliferate apically. Magnification: x80 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
