Dagger with Sheath (lat. pugio); Hamburg; iron; forged; inlaid; iron; part (dagger): Height: 33;9 cm; Width: 7;5 cm; Depth: 1;8 cm; Weapons (warfare/military); Early Imperial Period; Augustus; The Roman dagger (lat. pugio) including sheath originates from the Gardatal in South Tyrol. The dagger has a raised middle rib. On the narrow sides of the handle there are two recessed longitudinal strips in which an inlay once sat. On the front side red inlays in a round setting are preserved. The same decoration is repeated at the edges and on the locating band of the iron scabbard. The scabbard itself is decorated with brass and red inlays.
