Light micrograph of peptic duodenitis. The picture shows epithelium (surface lining) of the duodenum (first portion of the small bowel). Peptic duodenitis consists of transformation of the normal duodenal lining cells into cells which more closely resemble those that are normally found in the stomach. This change occurs due to irritation or inflammation of the duodenum. Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section. Magnification: 190x when printed at 10 cm.
