Light micrograph of the oxyntic type glands of normal stomach. The glands are formed of small clusters of cells surrounded by thin pink connective tissue. There are two main cells types: the parietal cells (light pink cells) and chief cells (purple cells). The parietal cells secrete stomach acid, whereas the chief cells secrete pepsinogen, an enzyme that helps digest proteins in food. Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section.
