Having become a minister and then president in May of the provisional government, he was overthrown by Lenin in October. Repin, who at first greeted the revolution with enthusiasm, became interested in Kerensky and obtained permission to make his portrait. The latter poses here in the Winter Palace, in the old library of Nicholas II, which became his office. Repin made two portraits.
