Scene from the Play The Mirror Mountain, Ohatsu spies argument between court ladies, Servant girl Ohatsu watches from behind sliding doors an argument between her mistress Onoe and another court lady named Iwafuji. Iwafuji hits Onoe with a sandal in the process. After this terrible humiliation, Onoe commits suicide, after which her maid Ohatsu will avenge her death. This scene is from the kabuki play Spiegelberg (Kagamiyama) and is based on a true story. This play was specially performed during the annual days off of maids so that they could attend this popular play written specifically for women.
