Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a freshly lost milk tooth. Milk teeth, also known as deciduous or primary teeth, are the first set of teeth in the growth and development of humans and other diphyodonts. The dentine (grey), the mineralised connective tissue that forms the bulk of the tooth, has been degraded by odontoclasts (brown), cells that facilitate the process of resorption of milk teeth roots. Also seen are granulocytes (yellow). Magnification: x2,400 when printed at 15cm wide.
