Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a section through the predentine of a tooth. Dentine is the mineralised connective tissue that forms the bulk of the tooth. Predentine is a dense network of collagen (grey) that will calcify into dentine. The spaces were occupied by odontoblast cells (dentine-producing cells), but they have removed in this preparation. The picture was created as part of a cooperation with Quintessenz Publishing. Magnification: x10,000 when printed at 15cm wide.
