Smoke from a wildfire burning in Nova Scotia, Canada, on 29th May 2023, captured by an astronaut on the International Space Station (ISS). This fire, near the town of Shelburne, started on the 27th May and had spread to about 235 square kilometres by the 9th June. This makes it the largest fire ever recorded in Nova Scotia. A heatwave after an abnormally dry spring contributed to the fire and dry windy conditions aided its spread. This was one of hundreds of wildfires burning across Canada at the time, with over 2000 square kilometres burned by the end of May.
