This is one of six weather satellites that form the Meteosat Third Generation system. The system is made up of four MTG-I satellites and two Meteosat Third Generation-Sounder (MTG-S) satellites, all in geostationary orbit. The new generation of satellites will continue to gather data for weather forecasting, with the MTG-I satellites adding real-time lightning imaging for early detection of severe storms. The first MTG-I satellite was launched in December 2022.
