Coloured computed tomography (CT) scan of the brain of a 32 year old male patient after a road traffic accident. There is a haemorrhage (bleeding, red) in the left front-temporal region (top right) and an extradural haematoma (brown) in the right parieto-occipital region (bottom left). A haematoma is an accumulation of blood from internal bleeding, in this case into the space between the dura mater (outer brain membrane) and the skull. The bleeding can exert pressure on the brain which can damage the tissues. If untreated, it can potentially be fatal.
