Oak eggar moth (Lasiocampa quercus), a member of the family Lasiocampidae and Britain's largest day-flying moth. The flight period is usually July to August. This species occurs on moors, dunes and heaths and is found widely across Europe. Males are usually a red brown colour whilst the females are paler. The larvae feed on a wide variety of food plants, but mainly heather and bilberry. Photographed in Somerset, UK, in August.
