War H.Q. to be Preserved -- The map and operations room at the secret War Headquarters. Coloured pins and wools still show the positions of our ships and men, and those of the enemy as they were when the war ended on August 17th 1948. The secret underground War Headquarters of the War Cabinet and the Chiefs of Staff, in Marshall, Street, Westminster, are to be preserved for their historic interest. The war map room, the Cabinet room, and the room from which Mr. Churchill made many of his inspired broadcasts are included in the plan of preservation. March 17, 1948.
