Infected sebaceous cyst on the back of a 51 year old female patient. A sebaceous cyst is a sac-like swelling under the skin filled with sebum, the oily product of the skin's sebaceous glands. They form when the secretory (sebaceous) glands associated with hair follicles become blocked. The formation of the cyst is harmless, but any infection needs treating. Treatment is with surgical drainage of the cyst and a course of antibiotics.
