The fibres are present amongst Schwann cells, which have the elongated blue nuclei seen interspersed amongst the wavy fibres. The Schwann cells support nerves and surround fibres with myelin material, which ensures efficient transmission of nerve signals. Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section.
