Coloured 3D computed tomography (CT) scan of the bran of a patient who has had an ischaemic stroke or cerebrovascular accident (CVA) affecting the supplementary motor area (blue, left). An ischaemic stroke is caused by a blockage or interruption of the blood supply to the brain. The lack of oxygen (hypoxia) damages the brain. Symptoms depend on the area affected.
