Electrotype copy from a band from the Assyrian Balawat Gates, erected by King Shalmaneser III, 883 - 824 BC. Right of centre the King stands to receive a procession of tributaries who have arrived in boats of Phoenician type, possibly from Tyre or Sidon. The king has his right hand raised in greeting, left hand holding a bow. Behind his head is an attendant with a parasol or flywhisk. The procession approaching the king is led by a bearded Assyrian official in a long fringed robe (perhaps the crown prince) who raises his right hand in greeting. Below him, a bearded foreigner dressed in a long garment with double hem and a soft cap with a double roll at the bottom prostrates himself. Electrotyping, is a chemical method for forming metal parts that exactly reproduce a model. British Museum.
