Massive old tree, possibly over 800 years old, which has been growing since before the island of Madeira was settled. It is an ancient relict Laurisilva tree, part of of a previously widespread laurel forest which covered much of Southern Europe 15-40 million years ago. Most of the area is believed to have never been felled. non-ex.
