The new clipper steam-ship "Ly-ee-moon", built for the opium trade, 1860. This beautiful vessel, which on her trial-trip attained the extraordinary speed of nearly seventeen knots per hour, the greatest yet achieved by any vessel, has just left the Thames for her destination. She was built by the Thames Shipbuilding Company, from the designs of Mr. James Ash, for Messrs. Dent, of Hong-Kong and other Chinese ports, and is intended to be employed in the opium trade. Every modern improvement has been fully carried out in her build and equipment, and she is decorated internally, in the most magnificent style, in white enamel and gold. She is of 1001 tons measurement, 270 feet long between the perpendiculars, 27 feet 3 inches beam, and 18 feet depth of hold, with oscillating engines of 350-horse power from designs by Mr. William C. Taylor. From "Illustrated London News", 1860.
