The War in China - tent of the 15th Punjaubees at Pehtang - from a sketch by our special artist, C. Wirgman, 1860. British officers and their Indian attendants. Note crates of cognac. In a square courtyard, matted over - which can be rolled off by means of four strings when the sun is down - the gallant officers may be observed, in every variety of picturesque uniform, seated at a long row of tables, either dispensing hospitality to their friends who call, or doing duty as officers. In the evening the scene has a charming appearance, lighted by Chinese lanterns and native dips in wonderful candlesticks. From "Illustrated London News", 1860.
