Watercolour illustration from a book of rare birds by G Edwards 1750. George Edwards (1694-1773) was a British naturalist and ornithologist. He travelled extensively through Europe; studying natural history and birds in particular. He gained some recognition for his coloured drawings; and published his first work in 1743-the first volume of A Natural History of Uncommon Birds.
