Adrenal cortex carcinoma, light micrograph. Adrenocortical carcinoma is an aggressive but rare cancer originating in the cortex (steroid hormone-producing tissue) of the adrenal gland. The tumour cells are forming round nodules of atypical cells with some resemblance to the cells of the normal adrenal cortex.
