Light micrograph of woven bone and cartilage. Woven bone (left side of image) is bone that is forming in response to injury or during growth. In this case, the woven bone was forming in reaction to an adjacent soft tissue tumour. Hyaline cartilage (right side of image) is made up of chondrocytes in spaces called lacunae (white circles) and a hyaline matrix (dark purple). Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section. Magnification: 100x when printed at 10cm.
